TOGETHER, WE CAN MAKE THE FUTURE SHINE BRIGHT!

In response to school closures brought on by COVID-19, we pivoted to our digital platform,
TGR EDU: Explore, sharing new and existing lessons with educators, students and families while also launching interactive video content on YouTube and no-tech resources to support distance learning. As we work through the remainder of the year, we are expanding all of our programs digitally to support hybrid learning, while targeting communities in the most need.

We saw an unprecedented global pandemic and societal unrest during the first half of 2020, making this a historic time requiring immediate action to better serve our high-needs communities and students of color. While TGR Foundation already began to lay the groundwork to focus on issues pertaining to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) in our programs, we knew our actions had to be accelerated.

Our TGR Learning Labs remain a key part of our portfolio, allowing us to better understand the relationship and impact between teaching techniques and student learning, self-advocacy and equity. Curriculum is being reviewed and updated through the lens of DEI, while data from student-facing programs, both in-person and virtual, is being used to punctuate our impact in these areas.

Drawing from our studies, which show professional development improves learning outcomes for students, we’re reminded that the work we do with educators is more critical than ever. We continue to focus our educator training on reinventing teaching and learning with a focus on student-centered, inquiry and project-based learning, while expanding geographically with a consistent focus on high-needs communities.

While we have always valued our partners, we are looking at new ways to engage them in our programs, strengthen our content and extend our reach. Moreover, we are also seeking new partnerships to inform our practice and enhance our work at every level.

MESSAGES FROM FOUNDER & CEO

2019 was a significant year for me professionally, but what stands out in all of the excitement of the year are the milestones achieved by TGR Foundation.

Several years ago, I asked our team to set the foundation on a course to reach millions of students. By training teachers, using digital programs and working with students, TGR Foundation’s staff, board, donors, partners and volunteers are making it happen. We’ve reached our first million students.

While we celebrate these achievements, we know there’s still work to be done. More students around the world need education opportunities, STEM skills and mindsets for success in order to ensure brighter futures for themselves and their families.

As an organization, TGR Foundation made significant strides in all areas in 2019, advancing strategic initiatives that broaden our impact and lay the foundation for continued growth.

In 2015 we set ambitious goals to dramatically increase our impact as part of our five-year plan. This year, we achieved two of those goals ahead of schedule. We reached a milestone of more than one million students impacted by TGR EDU: Explore, alone. We also exceeded our five-year goal of reaching 5,000 educators around the globe, equipping them with proven strategies and activities to engage their students around STEM and college success.

Globally, we are all encountering unexpected challenges in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Our hearts go out to the graduates who are not only missing their longed-for commencement ceremonies, but whose future plans have been disrupted by the crisis. While we have instituted new safety measures at our Learning Labs, we realize that now, more than ever, educators, students and families can benefit from our 40+ interdisciplinary learning resources available online at no cost through TGR EDU: Explore.

As we look ahead, we are excited about new opportunities to reach more students around the world, whether in person, online or through their teachers.

Together with our community of educators, parents, supporters and partners we will continue expanding educational opportunities for even more young people. Whatever the challenge, we’ll continue to reach milestones and achieve even more together.
